Community & Riverfront Plan

The Hertford Community & Riverfront Plan grew out of an earlier planning grant received from USDA that focused largely on commercial tourist related development along the natural resource of the Perquimans River. The subsequent USDA Rural Planning grant that funded  The Hertford Community &  Riverfront Plan was written to broaden the view for the potential of the historic downtown and residential neighborhoods. Consistent with the Plan, Hertford is moving forward with establishing a second historic district, the rehabilitation or demolition of poorly maintained or neglected properties, a construction design for a retaining wall and walkway along the riverfront.  The old “S” bridge truss has been salvaged and relocated to Missing Mill Park.  Longer range plans along the riverfront include an inn and catering/restaurant facility, an amphitheater seating over 1,000 people and additional businesses.
