Historic Hertford
Historic Hertford is located at the heart of Hertford, the Perquimans County seat! We’re home to retail, service and professional businesses and community resources; host to the community’s largest public events and festivals; and recognized as the place where economic and tourism growth begins for our area.
The Downtown district boasts one of several National Register Historic Districts in the County. Plans are in place to renovate the few distressed properties along Church, Market and Grubb Streets as well as the Waterfront, which is only steps from the Downtown. Through collaborative efforts with the NC Rural Center and the UNC Kenan Flagler School of Business, located in Chapel Hill, those visions are becoming reality.
Historic Hertford, Inc. is OUR Main Street Program, with funding help and guidance from the NC Main Street Center. The Mission of HHI is to facilitate the development of Hertford’s Historic District as the cultural, economic, social and historic center of Perquimans County, through the fostering of strategic civic, government and business alliances.
Most recently, Historic Hertford, Inc., the Save our Bridge Committee and the Town Council have taken a stance to help save and preserve the historic S- Bridge that connects the Town with Winfall from possible replacement by the NCDOT.
Whether you are coming for an event, coming to shop, or looking for a great location for a business, we’re glad you found us and look forward to your visit!
